Emergency Planning Maps
Emergency planning maps for flooding typically show the locations of dikes and other flood control works in the flood hazard area. Some maps also show disaster response routes, evacuation zones, emergency shelters and evacuation bus stops.
For flood emergency planning for the Lower Mainland, the BC government has developed Emergency Flood Planning Maps and Dike Inventory Maps for the Lower Mainland.
These maps support flood emergency preparedness, planning and response in the Lower Mainland by showing flood protection works that are regulated under the Dike Maintenance Act. They provide information on:
- Dike infrastructure, pump stations, floodboxes, riprap and relief wells.
- Known areas of hazard concerns and low dikes.
- Major road and street networks showing access points onto dikes.
- Infrastructure relevant to the safe operation of the dikes, such as major pipeline crossings.
